FAQs

Answers To Your Fire-Related Questions

Where is the closest fire station located?

If you live the Blackwood and surrounding area, chances are that you are not too far from a fire station:  Volunteer stations exist in Hawthorndene, Eden Hills, Belair, Coromandel Valley and Cherry Gardens (not to mention neighbouring CFS groups).

I’d like to volunteer - what do I need to do?

Fill out the expression of interests form found here and send it in to us.  We'll contact you to set up a meeting with the Operations Committee for a brief chat.

I don't know anything about hoses, or fires, or car accidents.  Do I get any training?

We all had start somewhere!  The CFS provides basic training and there are always opportunities to upgrade your skills through formal courses with the CFS.  Plus, our training sessions on Friday nights help impart skills that you will need.

Can you provide me with any advice for the fire season?

Your best advice comes from the CFS website https://www.cfs.sa.gov.au/site/home.jsp
They can provide details on current incidents, preparations for a bushfire, and news.
